Imagine you come home from work and your living room is more like Niagara Falls…
Do you know where your main water supply shut off valve is?
Have you tested it lately? It is important to test your main water valve at least once a year to ensure it has not seized and that it will work in case of an emergency.
First you need to find your main shut off valve. It should be located in your basement, just before the water meter.
If you have a circular valve (shown below), turn the handle clockwise until it stops; to test a ball valve turn the handle clockwise a quarter turn until it is at a right angle to the pipe.
Testing your water valve at least once a year will save you in the long run…especially if Niagara Falls moves in!
